What do you think of reincarnation?

Vanakkam

Hindus believe in reincarnation.  This is the belief that when a person's body dies, the soul - called the atman - moves onto another being.  This may be another person, a plant or an animal.  Hindus believe that the atman in everything is the same.  When a person dies their atman is reborn.  This happens over and over again, until the atman become completely pure [holy].  Then it can go back to being part of Brahman, where it began.  This is what Hindus aim for.

So look at the image above - death is the black figure and birth the white figure - they are almost combined into one being.  There is a connection, this idea of a cycle ... death leads into birth and animals into human.  Everything is connected - the atman [essence] in everything is the same.

This Hindu belief means that everyone gets as many chances as they need ... it also means everyone goes back to Brahman [Absolute Spirit, God].  What do you think about this?  If atman comes from Brahman, what makes it 'dirty' when we have it?

In Christianity you are born, live life and then die ... you are judged based on your one life - there is no reincarnation in Christianity.  Do you like the idea of reincarnation why?  Do you think there are any issues with it?  What do you think?

Think big

Happy blogging!

  1. As Hindus believe in reincarnation.we belive that there is a place in the middle of heaven and hell.when we do something bad we are more likely to go to hell but if we do something good we are more likely to go to heaven and i as a chatholic that god wants us to go to heaven At the stage when Hindus are recarnaiting their next life can be seen as a animal, a bird or it also can be a human it depends on what you were before. if u was a good person you would be something that is much better than before but if you was a bad you would be having a hard life.

  2. REINCARNATION is the idea of a never ending circle, where one can get as many chances as they want to become pure. I believe that instead of the idea of reincarnation of souls from one body to another after death, that the real reincarnation is actually God's all-forgiving attitude - which gives us as many chances as we want by itself. By us simply saying sorry and repenting, we are 'reincarnated' and given a fresh new slate by God. We are reincarnated through repentance.

  3. If atman comes from Brahman, what makes it 'dirty' when we have it?
~ well - the way we live our lives - the way we behave towards one another. When we're "foul/bad" to someone - the atman/soul may become "dirty".

Do you like the idea of reincarnation? Why?
~ Actually, I guess I do like the idea of reincarnation. Because it gives u many chances to become pure/holy. If you live a good life - then when you reincarnate - you may either go back to God or have another wonderful afterlife as something else. Also you get to experience what that "something else" is like. Also if you live a bad life - when you reincarnate - your afterlife is difficult - therfore - you have to change yourself and become good/"holy" again - which is fair - because until then - you suffer - you live a hard life - until you proove you're good/"holy"...

Do you think there are any issues with it?
~ I don't really know to be honest.
Probably, I'm just thinking - people might be thinking that if you reincarnate as something else - say a bug - you might get killed easily - but then - you reincarnate again right? So it's ok, right?
ok, I don't know if that made any sense, but, yh... :)

  4. I think reincarnation is when someone dies and if they are good they become closer to heaven and if they have made many bad things in their life they go down closer to hell its their soul that moves in to another body

  5. As A Christian I Don't Really Like The Fact Of Reincarnation Because You Are Already In 1 Body So You Don't Need To Move To Another One. It Kind Of Makes Sense Because It's The Same Kind Of Rules As The Christian Faith.

Giving an atman more than one chance is really important however there is good and bad side to this. For example one person can decide to be live a horrible life in one life time and think they can make up for it in a other life time.
You make an atman dirty when you do wrongs things. Wrongs things are physical actions that make you feel guilty about your self. In Christianity they are 10 rules (10 commandments) God as given to Christians to follow. If you are to break one it is considered as a sin. Linking back to Hinduism if do a bad thing that means your soul is becoming dirty.
In Christianity we don’t practice the same thing as reincarnation. However if our soul do become “dirty” we can confess our sins and ask forgiveness. Meaning we get one life time were you can make mistakes as every human being do sin but God is all forgiving so you don’t need another life time to become pure in soul. However if Christians don’t realise their sins and not confess, their after life might be in hell.

  7. I THINK REENCARNATION IS WHEN A PERSON DIES AND THERE SOUL GOES INTO ANOTHER LIVING THING AND DEPENDING ON WHETHER THEY WERE GOOD OR BAD IN THERE PREVIOUS LIFE THERE SOUL GOES WERE IT BELONGS.E.G BAD=ANT OR AN INSECT OR MAYBE PLANT AND GOOD=DOG OR DOLPHIN..SOMTHING NICE.
