This week at school is Refugee Week - when we explore what it means to be a refugee and we focus on the positive contribution that Refugees make to society. In PSHE and all your different subjects you've been exploring lots of different themes relating to Refugees.

The most famous Christian Refugee was Jesus as His parents fled from Israel to Egypt looking to keep their son safe. Jesus brought us freedom from sin, His birth and death allows us to have a relationship with God the Father, so He made an extremely important contribution to our lives. Sometimes the word refugee can make people think all different types of bad stuff about a person. THINK BIG: What do you think? Should we judge someone based on what we've heard? Is this a good thing? Is it human nature?

So I have a new name – refugee.
Strange that a name should take away from me
My past, my personality and hope.
Strange refuge this.
So many seem to share this name – refugee
Yet we share so many differences.
I find no comfort in my new name.
I long to share my past, restore my pride,
To show, I too, in time, will offer more
Than I have borrowed.
For now the comfort that I seek
Resides in the old yet new name
I would choose – friend.

i think that it is horrible if someone is labelled unless your labelled as a roll model or a good name, but if you are labelled as an inerpropriate name i think that it is terrible and would hurt that persons feelings alot.
ReplyDeletesomeone doesnt have to name you, especially if its like a horrible name. its your own identity + you shouldnt be labelled as something so mean.
ReplyDeleteA name uniquely identify a person and has a meaning to it. By others labelling you with an inappropriate name, it means that they are calling you with a name of wrong meaning or no meaning. For example, one's birth name may be Emmanuel - which means 'God with us'. If someone else labels you with an inappropriate name, then it takes away the meaning of his name. Every time people call his name of 'Emmanuel', they are saying 'God with us'. But if that name is replaced by a tag name, then the meaning is not defined. Names and their meanings are also labels that people live up to. They also send good messages about the person of that name.

ReplyDelete~ Obviously, we shouldn't, because what we have heard - may not even be true.

~ No, it's not a good thing that people get judged on. However I suppose it is human nature, beause when people hear certian things about someone - they tend to act upon what they've heard - from it/others...
Do you think it's ok to label people?
~ No, it's not ok to label people. Why should you be "labelled" as something - when that isn't even your true identity. You wouldn't want to be labelled - so why label others?
How can it make us feel being labelled?
~ Ok, like I said - you wouldn't like it if you were "labelled" - especially if it is something bad. You were given your true identity by your family - why should someone else (especially if they don't know you) label you? They have no rights to do so. No one likes being labelled as something. (even if it isn't true or nice)...
i personally think it is wrong to label someone because you may sometimes label them for a bad reason and when you label someone for a bad reason it makes them feel ashamed because no one likes to be labelled as a bad person
ReplyDeleteI thinks it's a terrible thing to be labelled because you was brought up to be you not to be labelled by other people.
ReplyDeleteI REALY DONT THINK ITS A GOOD THING TO BE LABLED BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU FEEL HORRIBLE INSIDE.IF YOUR LABLED BY SOME IT MAKES YOU FEEL LESS SPECIAL + UNIQUE.
ReplyDeletewe should not look at someone or lable someone because of what they look like because its a teribel thing to do.because the slightest thing, comment or look may ofend them or hurt there feelings
