Holy Week - the ultimate love story?

So the suffering and death of Jesus doesn't sound like the ideal love story, but when you start to unpeel it, wow ... you really see the love.  We all know that Jesus died on the cross for us, but how often do we take time to read those scriptures and really explore the human Jesus, who went through this suffering?  There was a reason He did it, not just because his Father told Him to.

"For God so loved the world."  What a statement - God loved us so much, He sent Jesus to sacrifice Himself for us and God watched as His only beloved Son was tortured.  The love a Father has for His Son vs the love God has for all His children.

THINK: Is there any bigger challenge?  What would you do to save many people?  Is it worth the sacrifice of one?  Or is every life of equal value?

Jesus' Passion for you all

Jesus thought you were worth the sacrifice.

So really Jesus' sacrifice became a question of free will.  Jesus was unique fully divine and fully human, but He chose to die as a criminal [crucifixion was a criminal's death].  We too as humans have free will, we can choose to do right or wrong, but when we misuse our free will it can have disastruous consequences.

THINK: Do you think we deserve free will?  Why did God give it to us?  Is our free will limited?  Should some people have it and others not?

THINK:  Where else do you think Holy Week teaches us about love?

There is lots here to think about!  Respond to the THINK questions, ask your own questions, reply to other people's comments.  Use proper English.  But most of all ...

Think big

Happy blogging!

  1. Well
I think that if God loved us and that we won over Jesus' Love and that Jesus died for us and all However look at us we are still having wars, selfishness and comminting crime then i think we shouldn't have free will However some people do actually care and try to do their best they are the only ones that should have free will

  2. Some people shouldn't have free will because they are bad people as in criminals. To save many people I would make my self be hear- like Oscar Romero I would be the voice of the voiceless.

  3. God gave us free will so we can make our own choices to whether we go to Heaven or hell. The rights and wrongs we do determines whether we deserve to go to Heaven or not, God doesn't force us into doing anything, so if we do go to hell it will mostly be our fault because of what we have been doing on earth.

  4. I believe that the question is not whether we deserve free will but what we should do with it now we have been given free will. God gave us free will in order for us to make our own choices during life and in turn make our own consequences. By God giving us free will, there is no limit to the actions we can perform, otherwise how is that free will? The only limit to our free will is the laws of man that restricts us. Free will is also limited by the fact that in some circumstances, our choices affects other people - e.g. someone deciding to murder a family member of someone else.
Through God's eyes, we are all equal - therefore free will is a gift of life to all.

yes, we do need free will, because there will be no point of living and there'll be no point of heaven or hell, because it's what we do with our free will that decides where we CHRISTIANS will go when we die. Either the burning lake of FIRE and BRIMSTONE or Beautiful HEAVEN - (there sre no other posibilities =D).
With free will we can make our own mistakes and be put on the right path by God to make our life pure again.

  6. I think we deserve free will because it gives us the option of making certain choices and choosing the different paths we want to take. God gave us free will because he is testing us on giving us certain situations that we can choose from and watching over us to see what decision we will make and whether we will make the right choice.

We think that we do deserve freewill, in a way, because if there wasn't any freewill then everyone will believe in one God, this is because everyone will be the same because they are not doing what they will/want to do... We deserve freewill because we are all unique and we have the right to do what we will. Also God wants us to be happy,by this he isn't controlling our actions, in this way we get free will.

Freewill isn't technically limited because some people will go to the extremes to do what they want. Example; a terrorist will terrorise areas, thinking that it's up to them what they want to do.

Everyone deserves freewill because everyone is unique.

Jesus' sacrifice for us should've been enough for everyone to live a life of peace and his death should have put an end to suffering. I actually feel sorry for God putting his son through all that pain, then people notice a change then they forget about the story behind Jesus' cruxifiction.

I still believe, we as Christians should have free will but use it in a good way to lead a good example to other people around the world.

i dont fully agree with what you have said because someone might care and use their free will to take advantage. Everyone should have free will but use it as you wish and belive that those who misstreat it will end up realising.

  10. i think God gave us free will so that we can have a bit of choice in our lives, since most of it is already planned out by God. I also think that God wants to see what we will do with our lives when we have choices to choose

We all diserve free will because we are all human which is one thing we have in common with jesus. we are able to use our free will in our own way as only god is able to judge wether we are using it to the best of our ability or correctly. As we are unable to judge one another.

  12. freewill is good but it sometimes allows people to make the wrong decisions but even when thet do this god is there to help us get back on track and he supports all of our decisions

  13. I believe that God has given everyone free will so we, as individuals, can be independent. During our lifetime, we go through different expiriences in which we have decisions. Its up to us whether we pick the right or wrong decisions but God is with us along the way with hope that we make the right choices.

love ur neighbours as ur self

  16. Sharon Lopez So Sharon are you saying that free will should be selective - but who will decide? Is that fair - that some people have free will and others don't?

  17. Smyrna Well done, Smyrna. You clearly state the concept of free will, it's just that our own impartial/ unbiased choices ... and no-one's responsibility apart from our own. But then, why do some people make the right choices? Can everyone be judged the same, if they all have different experiences that affect the choices they make? Shouldn't we make allowances for some people and expect others to do better? What do you think?

    Think big,

    Happy blogging,

  19. Rochelle Nicholas Bastien I know what you mean Rochelle, the action of having to watch a loved one suffer is enough for us to know how hard that is ... but God as the All-powerful, having to watch the execution of His Son, but knowing it was for the best ... is just ... well there are no real words. Is doing the right thing really worthwhile? What do you think? Give examples. Think big, happy blogging.

I think that all of us deserve a free will because whatever we do, we would still be equal in GODS eyes as we are all his people. GOD gave us a free will because when GOD created Adam and Eve he gave them a free will to wonder around the garden on Eden which I think gives us the right to have a free will but to be controlled at the same time. I think your free will is limited because there is so much discrimination, racism and hatred in the world we live in today; that we would need our free will to be limited so we could have some peace and order around the world.

  24. I think that we were all given free will, but we are able to decide what to do with it. Its like God knowing our future. He hasn't exactly laid it all out, but he gives us choices, and he knows every outcome of what choice we decide to make.

  29. well i think we do deserve free will, but we should use it wisely. and God gave us free will because he trust us and we are all children of God. i don't think our free will is limited. and jesus Love is very strong

  30. I belive that god gave us free will to make our own choices and to live life the way we want to, however the question is: IS IT THE RIGHT CHOICE? I think we have free will so that we can have a happy and peaceful life but in life there is going to be times when we make bad choices. If it happens you have to choose whether to ignore it or to make the right choice and fix it. Life is full of different choices the right ones and the bad ones.
In every person’s life there is a time when you have to make the biggest choice of your life which is whether you want to go to heaven or hell?

  32. i a part of me agrees with what loise said as others take life for granted
and are too self centered to think about the consequences although on the contrary god does tell us to FORGIVE and FORGET.

  33. a part of me me agrees with louises comment as a lot of citizens take life for advantage so self centered that they care not of the consequences able to happen but god did tell us to forgive and forget

  34. We are all given free will and we can also choose wether to bad things or good things. We may make mistakes but we are forgiven, Jesus chose to sacrifice his life,a criminal death so that we could be here. When you think about freewill it means choice. Jesus could have chose to not die and we would not e here but it was all GOD's plan and that was true sacrifice.

  43. God gave us free will, so it'a upto us what we decide to do with it and we should get ready to face the consequences. We have the choice to choose between right and wrong. God gives us free will because he doesn't want to control us, he gives us the choice if we want to follow or not.
